about the 10th alexander technique international congress
The Congress will be held between the 9th and the 15th of August 2015 in Limerick, Ireland.
We are delighted to invite you to the 10th International Congress with the theme of Empowering Humanity, Inspiring Science.
The Congress will be focused on learning and sharing practical information between colleagues and interested people to improve our professional skills, as well as bringing in experts in their field who will help to expand our understanding and communication of the Alexander Technique in the larger world.
The Alexander Technique Congresses have been taking place since 1986 with an average attendance of over 550 people over the last three Congresses. It is a real opportunity to meet like-minded people to enjoy a week filled with learning, sharing and laughter.
This Congress boasts a wide variety of presenters who have varied approaches to the Alexander Technique. Some you may recognize from previous Congresses; others will surprise and delight you with fresh perspectives. The program includes workshops suitable for everyone, including people who are not Alexander Teachers, while other workshops deal with hands-on techniques and will be offered to teachers and 3rd-year trainees. Whatever your interest, there is something for you! Workshop topics encompass considerable breadth, addressing hands-on skills, balance, running, swimming, breathing, dancing, voice-work, and working with musicians. Enhancing your presentation and promotional skills will also be covered. Honoring the history of the Congresses and our teachers' teachers, a film room will screen footage of first-generation teachers giving interviews and workshops from previous Congresses. Rooms will be available each evening to musicians and singers for impromptu and informal sessions -- non-musicians are very welcome to come and enjoy the craic!
We are happy to be coming to Ireland for the very first time. Ireland is famous for its warm welcome, generous hospitality, lively creativity, beautiful landscape and ancient spirituality. The city of Limerick is a lively town with an array of Irish pubs full of wonderful music. It is wonderfully situated in the very heart of the West of Ireland and close to the spectacular landscape of Kerry and Clare, made up of mountains, lakes and rugged coastline.
We very much look forward to seeing you at the AT Congress 2015 and are sure that you will have the time of your life.
With very best wishes,
Richard Brennan, Niall Kelly and Glenna Batson
2015 Congress Directors
In the spirit of the International Alexander Congresses, we value the many different approaches to the learning and teaching of Alexander's work. Registration for the Congress implies agreement to participate in this spirit of mutual respect, and agreement not to demean or criticise the person or work of other participants. We ask all those enrolling for their participation in fostering a supportive and friendly atmosphere where diversity and respectful dialogue are encouraged and enjoyed. We have chosen a Rumi quote for this congress that says it all:
Out beyond ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing, there is a field. I'll meet you there.
We look forward to meeting you in a green field in Ireland!
