alexander essential or alexander peripheral? from anatomy to thought
with anthony kingsley
2 sessions, 9:00 - 11:00 | repeated mon-tue, wed-thu, fri-sat
venue: CG-053, Main Building (ground level)
suitable for all
For over 30 years I have been exploring the meaning of the Alexander touch. How we think about what we do, and what not to do, has a profound impact on the quality and communication of our hands.
The way we touch another being is an extension of our deepest and often unconscious attitudes towards ourselves. It is also relational, and we are touched back in return from our pupils.
This dynamic mutuality is part of the beauty of the Alexander relationship. And meeting this unfolding mystery with an open heart can move us towards emotional healing.
- What is the 'timeless core' in contrast to 'the Variations of the Teachers Art'.
- Why the use of the self and not the use of the body?
- How can we creatively understand Alexander's terms, directions, inhibition, the primary control and mechanical advantage?
- Did Alexander evolve beyond his four books? Can we?
These sessions will offer a practical hands-on application of a relational model of the Technique. We will explore a truly psychophysical way of working, that can transform how we relate to ourselves and our pupils.
All welcome! And don't worry, as we will be constantly inspired by Alexander's request, 'not to excite the fear reflexes'.
