'It's All about Conscious Control and Confidence, dear' - F M Alexander

I have chosen a somewhat scary topic... taking the cue from Alexander's own characterization of his work (Marjorie Barlow quoted her uncle,FM, saying that to her).

Mostly a reminder to myself... this may also serve those who forget that, though the Technique is a 'Means-Whereby', there is a goal - a worthwhile 'end' - to our efforts. One is actually meant to gain something by losing something... and that ephemeral 'something' is increased conscious control and confidence.

The key to growing confidence is having a foundation of solid skills. Learning how to do simple 'moves' really well focuses the mind and helps gain confidence. In learning any art form, repetition, even if mechanically at times, is a factor. The word 'Technique', incidentally, comes from Greek, meaning 'Art'.

Practical work and discussion will be interwoven, including application to activities of your choice. The careful plan might be changed... in response to participants' needs.

*Please note: This is being written in October 2013, by the time we meet I may no longer be interested in this subject :)
