Marlene Johnson is Associate Professor of Theatre at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She is also an actor, professional performance coach, and a certified instructor of the Alexander Technique.
Her key interest of research is the integration of voice and movement to serve Dynamic Presence in the actor.
She is a designated Master Teacher of Armstrong Voicing the Archetypes of Myths and Legends. She has studied extensively with Patsy Rodenburg in London and in New York. She directs and acts for City Equity Theatre in Birmingham and has taught workshops in Belgrade, Glasgow, London, Madrid, Mexico City, Vancouver, Montreal, and the United States.
Johnson has vocal coached more than 140 shows at such venues as Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Alliance Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival.
