F alexander principles

Miss Goldie worked alongside Alexander for thirty years & her work was highly esteemed by him. This workshop is experiential, & aims to convey her key teaching as I understood it: how to really stop, a deeper level of inhibition, from which life can flow & we can rediscover the technique afresh in the moment. Working on ourselves in this way was what FM really wanted of us.
We'll use games to experience the basic principles by which we can 'give oneself a lesson' as Goldie would say. These will explore: Our reactivity to stimuli and our tendency to go into various 'Alexander modes'; how we subtly use feeling feedback, and how that actually tightens us; How to be aware of your body without interfering; & use directions without doing.
We will use ball games, vision games and 'No' games to discover true stopping, from which the brain sorts out the task itself. This is real inhibition, or coming to quiet, as Goldie would call it.
We will put this all together, to make discoveries about the technique, of how to use ourselves in all the activities of everyday life, & also in teaching.
