For over 25 years natural running has proved a fertile testing ground for key Alexander Technique principles.
Traditions are to the collective what habit is to the individual. A habit and tradition of putting shoes on our feet masks an underlying idea that our feet need protection. This assumption can be challenged. My workshop shifts attention to connection – especially the naked sole to the ground. Exploring such connections reveals some of the extraordinary versatility of the human foot.
FUQs: Frequently Unasked Questions are often the most fascinating:
• Why do the Alexander Technique directions contain no mention of the foot, which so obviously is foundational to support, balance and movement?
• Physics dictates that if something goes forward and up, then something else must go back and down, what might a better understanding of the foot reveal about this?
• What might have been different if FM Alexander had been a performing athlete instead of a performing actor?
