F alexander principles
This experiential workshop will offer teachers an opportunity to individually explore the Principles of the Alexander Technique in themselves and in their teaching. There is an art to teaching this Technique and that art lays in the balance between giving the student an experience they can draw knowledge from and matching that experience with the understanding of principle. Observation of the Whole Self, Inhibition, Direction, Primary Control, Faulty Sensory Appreciation, Recognition of Force of Habit, Use Affects Function, End-gaining and Means-whereby, these are the principles we work with and teach. It is the understanding of the principle experienced that allows the student to have constructive conscious control. Choice is the prize the student receives. Choice that facilitates the individual's ability to experience an exceptional quality of life filled with happiness, creativity, and fulfillment. What is the Alexander Technique today? What are you teaching? Why? And How? Is it time for a hermeneutical reconstruction of the principles i.e. an interpretation of an interpretation? Let's explore.
