walkingdancingflying – a dance lab

christina hirt, presenting at the Alexander Technique Congress 2015

with christina hirt
friday aug 14, 14:00 - 16:00
venue: IW2-049 (Dance Studio), Irish World Academy Building (level 2)

category:
A activity

We will begin the class lying down, directing our awareness towards inhibition, "leaving ourselves alone", consciously choosing our intentions and working with our directions. Following that we will spend some time practicing different ways of moving from lying down to "flying“, as inspired by the Dart-Procedures. Then I will give an input to a certain subject (eg. the oppositional forces of gravity and anti-gravity, or an anatomical issue), that we will explore with the help of a partner or group activity. This we will expand on, introducing our discoveries to forms of free improvisation, movement and dance.

Music always plays a vital role in my clases.
I would like to deal with these questions:
- What does “leaving ourselves alone“ mean in moving, dancing, training and improvising?
- What does concentration, being present, being authentic mean to us?
- What does coordination in movement mean to us?
- How much strength is needed for certain movements, and how can we use gravity, anti-gravity, and the natural directions to help us?
I`m very much looking forward to sharing with you what brought freedom and lightness into my everyday being, moving and dancing!
